Issue 11.1.23 ~ moonshine

Dark comes early now…

Welcome to
WHISPERshout Poetry Magazine, Issue 11, Number 1, 2023!

Happy November to all! We are thankful to be back publishing new original poems by kids ages 4-12 here at WHISPERshout! We publish a handful of poems each month, often with accompanying artwork and sometimes photos, and WE ENCOURAGE YOU TO SUBMIT YOUR WORK, and to comment on what you read here.

The clocks have changed in our part of the world and dark comes early, sometimes before kids have left school! Our issue this month features poems about the Moon and stars which are so noticeable at this time of year.

POEM #1
“Moon falling” - by Florence M. - 3rd grade, MD

In this poem, sometimes it sounds like the Moon might be speaking, and sometimes as if a human might be the speaker. Who do you think is waxing and waning (growing larger and smaller)? Do you see both sides of life?

POEM #2
“Moon & World in Space”
Madelinne A., 2nd grade, MD

Here the poet Madelinne writes in TWO voices. But the Moon and the world (Earth) are not just having a conversation; they are playing tag!

POEM #3
“rockLovelight” by Desi A. - 3rd grade, MD

Desi made this pinhole art design featuring her plush Rocky toy, and it inspired her to write about meeting Rocky in a whole new light!

POEM #4
“Moon” by AP - 2nd grade, MD

We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again—you don’t need very many words to make a strong poem! See how the poet A. stretches her 10 words down the page, long and narrow like a crescent moon? She even breaks “boomerang” into two parts! This little poem creates a world where the Moon is a toy we can play with.

Those are our glowing poems for this issue. Let us know what you liked by leaving a comment below! Look for our next issue in December…and if we receive poems from more of YOU, maybe there will be two issues in December.

Thanks for reading!
